Raw water management
We have developed significant expertise in treating poor quality raw water using leading technologies to:
-
Harvest scarce water resources
-
Transport the bulk water over long distances
-
Store and treat the water to meet World Health Organisation standards for quality.
This means Adelaide enjoys water of world-class standard which is being extended to most regional customers.
New water treatment processes
We are always looking for improved ways of treating water and exploring processes that minimise the use of chemicals.
MIEX® is a reusable polymer, developed after many years of research and team work by SA Water’s Australian Water Quality Centre, Orica Watercare and the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) Division of Molecular Science.
This technology dramatically reduces the amount of chemical dosing necessary for the production of drinking water.
Pipeline systems management
SA Water has established and maintains an extensive pipeline systems, transporting water across hundreds of kilometres. Through this we have developed specialised expertise in:
Wastewater collection and treatment
We also offer substantial experience in wastewater collection and treatment.
South Australia led the nation in installing wastewater treatment systems and was the first Australian capital to achieve secondary treatment of all wastewater.
From waste to water
SA Water is recycling products from water and wastewater treatment, with experience in:
-
The use of sludge as bulking material for fertilisers
-
Soil replacement for the rehabilitation of degraded land
-
The irrigation of high-value horticultural products
-
The use of methane gas recovered from the wastewater treatment process to generate heat and power at larger treatment plants.
Specialist management
We offer specialised advice on a range of other utility issues such as:
-
Reduction in non-revenue water
-
Leakage detection and reduction
-
Metering, billing and revenue collection
-
Customer service and asset management
-
Trade waste management.
Information systems and asset management
SA Water has a customer information system which provides an integrated revenue, billing and customer service and:
Critical in managing these programs are:
-
Utility asset planning
-
Replacement
